One Week Down...Whew!

Longest.week.ever! Good first week back at school, but oh my...a long one! I have 17 sweet kinder babies in my classroom...they will make me laugh and they will make me cry this year. I miss my big first graders like CrAzY, but I'm excited to make the connections with this new group of kids too. After 5 days with my new kiddos, I have a scratchy throat, tired feet, and a drained body. I have explained how to get in line 500 times, tied a lot of shoes, dried several tears, but have found something to laugh about each day too.

Apparantly, I have referred to my students as "Mrs. Libick's class" a bit too much this week, as one of my kids thinks my name actually is Mrs. "Libicks." :) We've also had a little boy tie his hands in handcuffs from the plastic bag his cookie came in from the lunch line, and his teacher had to literally use scissors to cut it off. Many a student have trouble pronouncing many words, and you can't help by smile inside at their vocabulary.

Wishing a very happy birthday to one of my best and oldest friends, Ryann! In fact, five years ago on this very day (her 18th birthday) we moved into our dorm room together at Texas A&M! So many great memories involve this red-head. So, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Rynita Marie! Wishing many birthday blessings on you in this "new" year of your life! :)

Getting to Know You

1. What kind of athlete has the hottest body?
Hmmm, I'd probably have to go with a baseball player. Not only is baseball my favorite sport, but I just think that when you stop and think about it they have the best all around body shape due to the many skills they have to acquire for the sport. :)

2. Are you a planner or a procrastinator?
I'm a PLANNER! I plan everything, in as far advance as I can. I planned my wedding for a year, I plan how I want to organize things, I make many to-do lists, I plan my future. What do I procrastinate on? You know - the normal things - like laundry, cleaning, and lesson plans. :)

3. Diet or regular (soda)?
Diet! Regular coke is way too sugary for me. I'm a diet coke and diet Dr. Pepper girl. :)

4. What's your one "must have" for fall?
A comfy pair of jeans. :)

5. What's your favorite fast food restaurant?
For drinks or if I'm looking for a variety of foods - Sonic. But, I can always eat at Whataburger...best fast food burgers and fries around!

6. What do you think is the sexiest profession for a guy?
Oh, definitely a pilot! How totally amazing is it for a guy to maneuver a piece of machinary like that in the air?! Good thing I'm married to one, great pilot! ;)

7. Did you wear braces?
Yup, for about 14 months in 6th and 7th grades. Not so bad, but glad I don't have them anymore!

8. Would you rather have a guy that's super sexy or kind?
Definitely a guy that's kind. Lucky for me, my husband is super sweet and super cute! :)

Hello, August; So Long, Sweet Summer...

Can you believe it's August 1st?! It's totally crazy that the summer is pretty much over. While I do have two more weeks until my contract back at school officially starts, I have new teacher/new employee training this week, since I was hired late last year and missed all of that training. Kind of a bum deal since I've already been exposed to and trained on some of the various topics, but I am just so thankful to have a job - a job where I love my school and team - that I'll go to my trainings with a big smile on my face. :) The next week, I'll need to be setting up my classroom for my new group of kinder babies since I'll be in training for this whole week. And, then on the 16th, we are back to the grind of reality. The kids will be running down the hallways bright and early on the 23rd. I am glad to get back to a routine, meet my new class, and see how big my kiddos from last year have grown!

It feels like an eternity since school let out - things seem so distant, but MAN! Did this summer ever FLY by! I definitely did the shopping, movie watching, book reading, and relaxing I had planned on. In addition to all that, we celebrated many birthdays, had a great first wedding anniversary, had an amazing trip to Virginia Beach, and did our fair share of swimming at Mom and Dad's new pool. :) A great summer, to say the least. Ohhhhh, I wiill miss parts of you, summer. The late nights, sleeping past 5:30 am, being out in the sunshine, and the extra time with friends and family. I'll see you again in 10 months!

One Year Anniversary

So, I realized I never blogged on how Steve and I celebrated our great first year of marriage. So, here we go...

Saturday night, we spent the evening together, and it was very low key. We ate dinner at Whataburger (where we ate on our way to the hotel on our wedding night, so it was fitting). We came back home to just cuddle up next to each other with a movie. Before we settled in for the night, though - Steve had a small (early) surprise for me. He had put together a slideshow of pictures of EVERYTHING we had done and shared together in our first year of marriage. It contained everything from the actual wedding to our first holidays together, from date nights to even pictures of me setting up my first classroom. It was INCREDIBLY SWEET and was a great reminder at how much we had gone through, conquered, and how much fun we are having being married, along with how our love has grown. He even put music with it. It was really thoughtful.

Sunday morning (our actual anniversary), we went to church and then went to lunch at Texas de Brazil. (This place was grrrreat! It's got a HUGE salad bar with about 50 choices of stuff to get, and then the servers bring out huge skewers of meat, and you choose which meat you want. It's continuous until you tell them to stop. And, of course - dessert was divine!) When we got home from lunch, we exchanged gifts (new watches for each other) and watched our wedding video. It was so nice reliving the best day of our lives. So many special moments that flew by or we had forgotten. What a special ceremony and FUN reception we had. We laughed and cried. :) I was set to go to the Michael Buble concert that night, so I did that while Steve went fishing. When we got home, we exchanged cards and ate our top layer of wedding cake. Steve had the first year anniversary Precious Moment figurine sitting on our wedding cake as another surprise when I got home. How did the cake taste? Not too bad, but we didn't eat the whole tier. :) We ended the night enjoying each other's company.

It was a simple, but GREAT way to celebrate our first year of marriage. It was a wonderful day, wrapping up a wonderful year. My husband is amazing, and I am just so lucky.

Oh yeah, one more surprise - a kitten and a house are always my responses for what I want for any sort of gift-giving occasion. Steve attempted to come through on one of those requests. :)

One Year of Marital Bliss

One year ago, today, I walked down the aisle to my beaming husband-to-be, and Steve and I became man and wife. It was a beautiful day...one that still seems so fresh in my mind, but like ages ago at the same time. In honor of our first anniversary, I put together some photo collages that are some of my favorite memories from our wedding day. Enjoy!

I love you, Steve. You are an incredible husband, and the day I married you was the best of my life! Here's to 99 more years together!

On July 18th, two years ago, Steve actually proposed. So, while we are enjoying a celebration of the day we actually got married, we must also remember the night that started it all. :)

Kindergarten Korner

One of my favorite parts of teaching kindergarten were the cutest, most outrageous things the kids said and their various viewpoints on the adult world. And, so I share with you, the first installment of "Kindergarten Korner." Enjoy - hope you get as big a smile out of these darlings as I did! :)

-On Career Day, while the police officer is taking questions from the kids: "Do you carry peppermint spray?"

-I had a mom email me one day asking if I was interested in a class pet...she had found a ferret in her living room! I declined the little critter, but put out an email to the school seeing if anyone else was interested. This was one of the responses I got from a co-teacher: "Oh, this is definitely a story for your book. I suggest the title, 'Is There a Class Pet in your Living Room?'"

-Kid: "One time, my mom and I were driving to my grandma's house. She lives in like a dump in the woods. And there is this pond, with aligators. And, I jumped in and wrestled one. And it was hard. And, then, it like bit me on the hand."

-Kid 1: "What's juevie?"
Kid 2: "Kid jail."

-According the students in my class, when you grow up, you have to pay bills, get married, "get" kids...and then after all of that, you get a house!

-On the 100th day of school, while talking about what we might look like when we are 100 years old, one student suggested you might need a cane. This conversation followed:
Kid 1: "What's a cane look like?"
Kid 2: "You know - it's a stick that looks like a candy cane."

-Kid 1: "Knock, knock."
Kid 2: "Who's there?"
Kid 1: "Banana."
Kid 2: "Banana who?"
Kid 1: "Aren't you glad I didn't say 'orange?'"

-When a child came out of the bathroom and found a silver binder ring on the floor in there, I heard: "Mrs. Libick - I found your earring in the bathroom!"

-Kid: "Look, Mrs. Libick - I have a thermometer in my lunchbox, and it's supposed to keep my lunch warm!"
Me: "No, that's called a thermos."

-Kid: "Mrs. Libick, I had a bubble in my throat and I popped it and now it hurts."

-You've heard of the man who helped lead the Civil Rights Movement, right? You know - Martin "Luten" King, Jr.

-While talking to my students about how their behavior the previous day made me cry that afternoon, a student so helpfully suggested that when I feel that way, I should just go: "Lord, help me!"

-Kid: "My dad's on a trip for work in Hoo-ston!"

-When I knocked over a box of binder rings one afternoon, I (sarcastically) said, "Sweet." A student heard me and replied: "Sweet nibbles!" I believe it was supposed to be: "Sweet nibblets," off of Hannah Montana.

-Kid: "Mrs. Libick - I've never had a nickname. I'm just going to give myself one. How about 'Sally?!'"

-Kid: "Mrs. Libick, you know that place where cops go? You know, when the cops go to jail? That's a dangerous place because there are lots of strangers."

-While reading a book about Thanksgiving, there is a picture of a turkey family hugging and kissing because the whole family is together...Kid: "Ewwwwww! I'm not getting married!"

-A debate about Santa Claus was going on in my class.
Kid 1: "No, Santa's not real, those presents just come from your mom and dad."
Kid 2: "Then, why do I hear his footsteps? Why are the cookies gone in the morning? Who do YOU see at the mall?"

-I got a director's chair with my name on it for my birthday, for my classroom. Here were two comments about it the next morning.
Kid 1: "Was that e-spensive?"
Kid 2: "That's an action chair. Where you sit and yell, 'Action!'"

-Me: "Did you do anything exciting this weekend?"
Kid: "I went to church."
Me: "Oh! What church do you go to?"
Kid: "Sunday School."

-Kid 1: "Oh - your parents are just like my parents! They never have any money."
Kid 2: "Yeah, my mom and dad have to wait until they get their allowance."
Kid 1: "My mom and dad owe me $1!"

-Kid: "When I'm a teenager, I'll be old enough to live in a hotel."

-Kid: "Mrs. Libick, my tooth is coming in cricket." (Meaning crooked.)

-A conversation I overheard one day: "If you're not going to be my friend in high school, then I'm not going to be your friend in college."

-I had a kid whose dad gave him a digital watch, so every 10 minutes he was coming up to me that morning going, "Mrs. Libick, I know what time it is! It's 9-4-1."

-A girl is moving to another town. She informed that her mom took their house to the market. (Put it on the market.)

-In the YMCA line, I hear this, at the end of the day: "Teacher! C just poked D in his b-o-t!" (Butt.)
